Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the second meeting of the Governing Council of the NITI Aayog on Wednesday at his official 7, Race Course Road residence. Chief Ministers from the opposition parties, excluding Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal skipped the NITI Aayog meeting. Nine chief ministers from the Congress party boycotted the meet. Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Odisha's Naveen Patnaik also gave the meeting a miss. The meeting of NITI Aayog is being seen as an attempt by the NDA government to break the deadlock over the controversial Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Second Amendment Bill, 2015) that faces strong opposition from the Congress.
