It's the fourth week of our Technical Response Unit's training, and the team are being trained in Urban Search and Rescue Techniques at the Fire Service College in Moreton.
The Technical Response Unit (TRU) is a new group of highly trained firefighters who deal with technically challenging rescues. These include collapsed structures; confined space incidents; line rescue; rescue of bariatric casualties; trench rescue; marauding terrorist threats; structural stability; and trapped people.
Two new TRUs - based at Ashton and Leigh fire stations - will be introduced at GMFRS to improve the safety of both the public of Greater Manchester and the Service's operational crews.
