Spent the day trolley watching at SEPTA's Drexel Hill Junction. The trolleys originate from the 69th St. Transportation Center. At Drexel Hill, the route 101 & 102 part ways. The 101 heads to Media, the 102 heads to Sharon Hill. The lines meet up again here on the return trip the 69th St. Transportation Center.
It's a great place to trolley watch with plenty of action. SEPTA inherited the route from the old Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company.
The cars were made in the 1980's by Kawasaki. You'll notice that these are suburban cars. They are double ended with pantographs. There no loops to turn around in Media or Sharon Hill. When cars reach the end of the line the operator simply switches ends to start his next run. But I bet you already knew that.
The rest of SEPTA's K cars are single ended, have poles and turn on loops. These are the subway surface trolleys. Routes 10, 11, 13, 34, and 36.
Thanks for watching!
