Ben Lomond National Park is an adventurers paradise. With sheer dolerite peaks perfect for climbing, the most skiable snow in Tasmania and a vast alpine landscape just begging to be explored, you could spend over a week wandering through its expanse.
We began our adventures of Ben Lomond by hiking the Carr Villa track. This track is a 9 km return hike that begins amongst the dolerite towers before summiting Legges Tor, the tallest peak that towers over the Ben Lomond Ski fields. This hike is the perfect introduction to what is on offer in the Ben Lomond National Park.
We chose to camp overnight in the alpine, waking to an incredible sunrise and a world of frost and ice. This hike is easily doable in a day, though if you're equipped for some backcountry camping then we highly recommend finding an alpine campsite for the night.
