The parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus is found in Luke 16:19-31. The story tells of a rich man who lived a life of luxury and excess, while a poor man named Lazarus lay outside his gate, covered in sores and begging for scraps. Despite his wealth, the rich man ignored Lazarus and refused to help him. Eventually, both men died, and Lazarus was taken to Abraham's side in heaven, while the rich man was sent to Hades, a place of torment. From Hades, the rich man begged Abraham to send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool his tongue, but Abraham told him that it was too late and that there was a great chasm between them that could not be crossed. The rich man then begged Abraham to send Lazarus to warn his family about the torment that awaited them if they did not repent, but Abraham told him that they already had Moses and the Prophets to warn them, and that if they did not listen to them, they would not be convinced even if someone were to rise from the dead. The parable teaches the importance of helping those in need and the danger of living a life of excess without regard for others.
