Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls is one of the biggest and most awe-inspiring waterfalls on the planet. It is arguably the largest sheet of falling water with an undisputed 500 million liters plunging into the gorge every minute. The sheer force of the water causes a mystic spray which makes it rain on a sunny clear blue sky. The entire formation and experience within the waterfall and its misplaced tropical rainforest make it one of the world’s seven natural wonders. Spanning the width of the Zambezi River—more than a mile across—this legendary waterfall cascades over the lip of a large plateau of volcanic rock that soars 108 meters high. The over 1.7-kilometer length gives the viewer about 15 unique viewpoints of the drapes of water. From more than a dozen miles away, powerful mists can be seen making a statement. And with them, a loud roar can be heard from far away. The locals call Mosi-oa-Tunya, or "the smoke that thunders." It is undeniably, Southern Africa’s most popular attraction. It is home to several unique species of plants and animals. Its majestic grandeur can be viewed from both Zambia and Zimbabwe.
