As we age, it becomes increasingly important to focus on our health. Yes, keeping a close eye on our diet is just one of the essentials of healthy aging, my friend.
Healthy eating is one of the most important things we can do to reduce our risk of disease. Some foods are particularly harmful for us in our 60s and beyond. We'll discuss the foods to avoid after 60 to maintain your health and well-being as well as the type of nutrition choices that will help us live the best lives we can as we age.
As always, be sure to check with your physician if you're unsure about what foods are best for your particular health and medical needs.
1. Processed meats: can be difficult for our bodies to digest, and they are high in fat and salt
2. Fried foods: can be high in calories, saturated fats, and trans fats. Our bodies are less efficient at processing these fats as we age.
3. Soft cheeses: made with unpasteurized milk, which could contain harmful bacteria. Our immune system weakens as we age and we can be more susceptible to foodborne illnesses.
4. Sprouts: can be difficult to digest, and our bodies are not as efficient at digesting food as they once were.
5. Foods high in salt: we should avoid these foods after 60 to keep our blood pressure healthy and to prevent dehydration.
6. Pastries: often high in sugar and fat, which can lead to weight gain and insulin resistance. Many contain processed and refined ingredients and they lack nutrition
7. Sodas and sugary drinks: they are loaded with sugar, and our slower metabolism can lead to weight gain and other health issues.
8. Candy: similar to sodas mentioned above, the sugar in candy is just not good for us.
