This is what you can make from just one ingredient, coconut. The coconut is used in abundance at most Indian households but we use it just for the basic chutneys, so I thought why not show you how easy it is to use it in multiple different ways. Let's make this.
6-7 coconuts
Coconut Water
Break open the coconut shell carefully. Collect the water. Drink it as is or use it for smoothies.
Coconut Shell
Scrape the coconut flesh. Wash the shells thoroughly to remove any remains. Use the shells as decor pieces or to serve your snacks you can also make idlis in them. You can also add wax to this & convert it into a candle (if your base is steady).
Coconut Milk
Blitz the coconut flesh with water. Strain it thoroughly & store the milk in an airtight container for upto a week in the fridge. Use it for curries, smoothies, etc.Coconut Cream
Add the freshly squeezed milk to a bowl & let it rest in the fridge overnight. The cream separates from the water & soldifies on the top. Store the cream for upto a week in an airtight container in the fridge. Use it in curries, desserts, smoothie bowls, etc.
Coconut Oil
Heat the coconut cream in a pan till the oil is extracted & the solids turn brown. Strain & store this in an airtight container for 3-4 months. You can use this for cooking or apply it on your skin/hair too.
Coconut Crisp
The brown solids left after making the coconut oil can be used as a crunchy topping for desserts. This does have a high fat content & very strong coconut flavour.
Dessicated Coconut
Heat a pan & add in the solids left after squeezing the milk. Cook it on medium heat for 10-15 minutes till the mixture dries up. Let it cool & transfer to an airtight container. Store it in the fridge for upto a week. You can use this for making laddoos, cookies, cakes, etc.Coconut Chips
Using a peeler, peel the coconut flesh into thin strips. Spread it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spray some oil, salt & powdered sugar on it & mix well. Bake in a preheated 180°C oven for 10-15 minutes or until the chips turn golden brown & crispy.
