Some #hearing aids, such as those that go behind the ear, are quite visible. But plenty of modern marvels are so small and placed within the ear, that people won't know that you're wearing one. In this video, audiologist Brad Ingrao describes the different types of #hearing aids available today, and you.ll be surprised by the wide variety and the power they pack.
Some of these life-changers sit behind the ear, and are visible to others. These Behind-the-Ear #hearing aids are known as BTE, while the smaller ones are mini Behind-the-Ear #hearing aids, or mBTE. Many people who have suffered #hearing loss would rather not communicate well than wear such a visible aid. People with less severe #hearing loss can get more discreet #hearing aids, such as Receiver-in-canal #hearing aids, known as RIC. Other types explained by audiologist Brad Ingrao are In-the-Ear #hearing aids, or ITE; completely-in-canal #hearing aids or CIC; and Invisible-in-canal #hearing aids or IIC. These custom-fitted #hearing aids are very discreet but powerful. The electronics have gotten small enough now that even some of these very small
devices can have wireless capabilities, which would allow you to connect to maybe a TV, streaming device, or a cell phone.
The Phonak Lyric is an Extended Wear #hearing aid. You go to a specially trained professional, an audiologist or a hearing instrument specialist to have this tiny foam-
encased #hearing aid placed deeply into your ear canal. And then you leave it
for three months. It's completely bio-neutral, so it doesn't harm your ear canal at all.
At night, you use a little wand to put it to sleep at night. After about three months, the battery
dies. You go back to your hearing care professional, who removes it with a special tool, cleans your ear canal, and puts another one in. These extended wear programs
are a little different than typical #hearing aids, in that you buy a subscription.
So people who have hearing loss -- and the people who care about them -- will learn about the many high-tech #hearing aid options available today.
