Manitoba Hydro’s new compressed natural gas station near Winnipeg is now in full operation.
The station is located in The RM of Macdonald, on Provincial Road 330 immediately south of the Perimeter Highway. The site allows Manitoba Hydro to respond rapidly to a natural gas outage such as the one in January 2014 near Otterburne. The pipeline explosion left about 3,700 homes without natural gas service.
The new station includes two tanker trucks with compressed natural gas (CNG) to provide an alternate supply of gas in the event of an outage. The tanker trucks would deliver the CNG to local injection points in the natural gas distribution system.
The CNG station also allows staff to repair points on the distribution system without affecting the supply of natural gas to our customers.
