I usually use shop sawn veneer, but here I skipped all of the prep that that requires and used commercially sawn veneer instead. It’s a full 1/16” thick, so works a lot like solid wood—using saws and occasionally hand planes.
The track saw is perfect for breaking down these pieces to size for gluing onto the final substrates. The saw gives relatively clean edges for jointing the leaves together, and it’s very handy to switch to the shorter track for the crosscuts.
There is still some trimming to come after these are glued onto the substrates, but the inside edges—that is, the edges that meet up on the middle panel—will have very little trimming. I’ll pay special attention to those to take less from them so the grain match stays continuous.
