A walk along the beach between Bournemouth Pier and Boscombe pier in 1966, with Lopsie the Dalmatian puppy. Several differences from today:
1) The lamp posts had illuminated flowers, ships, lighthouses, butterflies with coloured lamps back in 1966, these disappeared at some point in the 1980s, sadly.
2) As you can clearly see, the beach was a lot lower and narrower than today, at high tide the waves would break on the sea wall and over the promenade. Several phases of beach replenishment works since the early 1970s have successively raised the beaches to their current level.
3) Remains of WW2 beach defences can be seen, the D - rings on the sea wall for example.
4) The cliffs have not been graded all the way along as they are now in most places.
