Severe tornado-warned storms walloped parts of Indiana overnight into August 7, causing damage to homes and trees in Washington County, according to local reports.
According to Duke Energy, more than 5,000 customers in Indiana had no power as of 9:30 am Monday.
Survey teams would be on the ground in Dubois, Orange, and Washington counties on Monday to assess storm damage, the National Weather Service said. Preliminary reports indicated an EF-1 rated tornado with 90 mph winds had hit Haysville, in northern Dubois County.
Portions of south central Indiana and central Kentucky remained under a hazardous weather outlook as the NWS warned of an additional round of strong to severe thunderstorms expected Monday afternoon.
