Hello to all our valued Rolling Hills Elementary families. As principal, I’m reaching out with some important information about a key event in our academic calendar – the CAASPP testing. The CAASPP, or the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, is a set of assessments that help us gauge how well our students are learning the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in today’s world.
This year, our testing period begins on April 8th with practice sessions for students in grades 3 to 5. These practice sessions are a crucial part of helping our students get familiar with the test format and the types of questions they will encounter.
On April 10th, we will hold a CAASPP Kickoff Rally. This event is designed to inspire and motivate our students, ensuring they approach these assessments with confidence and a positive attitude. We know our students have worked hard all year, and this rally is a great way to celebrate their efforts and set them up for success.
We also ask for your support in providing your child with earbuds or headphones. These will be essential for the testing, as they help students focus and do their best without distractions.
As we move into the main testing window, starting on April 22nd, students will engage with the English Language Arts and Math assessments. These tests are not just about answering questions; they’re about thinking critically, solving problems, and demonstrating understanding.
To help your child perform their best, we encourage you to talk with them about the importance of the test, ensuring they understand that this is their opportunity to show what they’ve learned.
Additionally, a good night’s sleep is invaluable. Rest is a key factor in cognitive function, and we want to make sure that every student comes to school well-rested and ready to go. On testing days, a healthy breakfast is just as crucial. While we provide a free breakfast at school from 7:25 am, starting the day with a nutritious meal at home can also help set the right tone for the day.
It's important to note that these tests are a snapshot of your child’s progress and are used along with other data to create a fuller picture of their educational journey. If you have any concerns or wish to discuss the possibility of exemption from the CAASPP, please feel free to contact us. Our goal is to ensure that every family is informed and comfortable with the process.
We look forward to a successful testing period and are excited to see the incredible potential of our students come to life through their hard work and perseverance. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making Rolling Hills Elementary a place where learners thrive.
