How can you tell if the WLL is in short tons or metric tonnes on your shackle? What does a lowercase t mean vs. an uppercase T? Does it make a difference?
Yes! It makes a difference.
A lowercase t means the WLL is measured in Metric tonnes which equals approximately 2,205 pounds, while a capital T means the WLL is measured in short tons equaling 2,000 pounds. This is important to note, so you can ensure you do not miscalculate the WLL of your shackle. If you measure in metric tonnes when your shackle is rated for short tons you could exceed that WLL. Rigging hooks are also typically rated in metric tons. Never exceed any of your rigging’s WLL.
