STORYLINE:
Ahead of Sunday's election, leading candidate and first Lady Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is poised in the polls to beat 12 rivals for her husband's post.
According to recent polls none of the opposition candidates for the Presidential elections stand a chance in beating the First Lady.
And pollsters predict Fernandez will seize an outright victory without need of a second round.
The slender hope of opposition candidates, led by ex-Congresswoman Elisa Carrio on the left and former Economy Minister Roberto Lavagna on the right, is to trigger a runoff by collectively dragging Fernandez below 40 percent.
But Fernandez had 44 percent support to Carrio's 15 and Lavagna's 13 in a recent nationwide poll by respected independent pollster Ricardo Rouvier, with the rest undecided or choosing one of 10 other candidates.
Elisa Carrio, a leftist independent and former House deputy, promises to enact "clean government" after years of corruption scandals, some of which happened on Kirchner's watch.
Last week Carrio likened her campaign to the Bible's most famous underdog, saying: "We celebrate the fact that we are David, not Goliath."
"However, all this is not sufficient for her to be considered a leader who would be able to govern," she added.
