Masai Mara National Reserve is the biggest national Reserve in kenya, measuring about 520 square kilometres. It is popular destination in the world for safari and game drive. It’s located in the southern part of the Kenya in the Great Rift Valley. The small city near the Masai Mara is Narok. Masai Mara is around 260 kilometres from Nairobi and almost 6 hours drive. You also can fly from the Nairobi Wilson Airport. Masai Mara is also called The Mara by the locals and the name Masai Mara is actually given  in the respect of the Masai people who lives there. It's located with the border of Serengeti National park of Tanzania. The animals migrate from Tanzania to Masai Mara between June/July to October/December and that is the best time to visit Masai mara. The weather is bit different from Nairobi or Mombasa, check it before you go and take proper clothings.

Coming to Masai Mara safari, the usual route is booking the tour with a tour company but you also can go there by yourself which obviously requires significant amount of efforts and mind set. You can search online about the tour booking company or there are website to compare prices and ratings of different tours with different prices and itineraries. Best option to go there for 3 days 2 Nights trip but you can go from 2 days to 1 week or more if you want. You can do game drive, hot air Balloon safaris etc. The price starts from around 200 usd.

Now I will take you through the details of the 2 or 3 days group trip in short. It’s different if you book a private tour which is obviously as per your convenience. Now coming to grouo tour, If you book the tour and if you book it from Nairobi, the tour company will pick you up from your hotel around at 7 to 8 in the morning. They'll pick other people too and then will start the journey towards Masai Mara. After an hour or so, they will stop at the Great rift Valley. You will see incredible view of it. There are also some gift shops here. After a very brief stop, you will start again towards Masai Mara. Based on the time you departs, you will either have your breakfast on the way in a hotel fixed by the tour company or in the camp you’ll be staying if arrive there around at lunch time. The lunch and also all the meals during the trip are usually buffet style with limited menus. Once you arrive at your camp or hotel, you will be given around half an hour to check in and to freshen up yourself. After that, firat game drive will start which will be upto sunset. Then you will be back to the place you are staying. Dinner is included and will be provided in around at 07:30pm local tome. Next day, breakfast starts very early, around at 05:30am and they will start game drive very early and you will experience the wonderful sunrise in the Masai Mara Reserve and then if your package is for 3 days, you’ll continue for the whole day safari. But if it is your last day of safari, most of the time, the tour operators will bring you back around at 9 to 10am. But the ticket is valid for 24 hours and try to make sure with your tour company to make maximum out of it. Upon return, you can go the Masai Village for a Charge of 10 USD. There you will experience the Masai culture and you can dance with them. It’s usually about an hour. Then they'll start journey back to Nairobi and will drop you at your hotel.
