This is the 5th episode of my mini series. In this episode I take you to LuoDian New Town, which has a Swedish theme. It was designed in 2001 and completed after 2010, with an area over 5.6 sq. kilometres. It is a replica of a town called Sigtuna and includes an artificial lake that replicates lake Malaren. Saw quite a few empty property for businesses but the residential property looks more filled up. There is a big beautiful castle as well that is actually used for.... Find out in the video :)
In 2001 the government started the initiative called One City 9 Towns. The idea was to encourage people to move into the suburbs. In the end only 7 towns were built and it's taking a while to sell all the property in these replicas. There is a lot of life now in Shanghai suburbs now nevertheless, due to metro expansion, and general city growth.
