Thailand got the ball rolling on the two-day APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on November 18, with the theme, "Open, Connect, Balance." Over the past decades, Asia-Pacific countries have banded together through cooperation and regional integration. They have launched the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, or RCEP, and they are working towards the goal of an Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area. China, since joining APEC 31 years ago, has been firmly committed to free trade and multilateralism. CGTN’s Tian Wei spoke to Rebecca Sta Maria, the executive director of the APEC Secretariat. She said regional initiatives like RCEP and the CPTPP do complement each other, without competition, and that members benefit from the agreements.
