More rain on its way for the western coast of the South Island this afternoon. A Heavy Rain Watch has been issued for Buller from 3pm Tuesday until Midnight tonight.
After a showery start to the day the North Island will see some brighter weather returning for the afternoon. On the South Island, the east of the Island is set to enjoy the best of the sunshine with cloudier weather in the west and rain feeding into Fiordland through the day.
While it is drier in the east it will be a windy story, especially for the second half of the day for the inland parts of Southland, Otago and Canterbury. Winds are set to strengthen through the afternoon on Wednesday with gusts of 90-100km/h possible in the most exposed areas.
Winds will also strengthen around Cook Strait into Thursday with another Strong Wind Watch in place for Wellington, Wairarapa and the Marlborough Sounds.
