Typhoon Rai, named Odette in the Philippines, made landfall as a Category 5 storm earlier on Siargao island, and is now pushing through the southern Visayas with ferocious power. Severe impacts are occurring in the region, with strong winds and frighteningly high amounts of rainfall. Rai may intensify again to reach a second peak in the South China Sea as a Category 3 storm, before rapidly weakening off the coast of Vietnam.
