Can Stress Make You Sick?
Rodger Duckworth addresses how chronic stress can affect the body, often making you sick with a stress illness.
He explains how short term stress is normal if healthily processed by the body. However, chronic (long-term) stress can mean the body is in a constant fight or flight response for prolonged period of time, in which an inflammatory and immune response is mobilised. This is due to the body constantly believing we are under a physical threat.
Our activated immune system as a result of chronic stress can then cause autoimmune diseases, including IBS, lupus, Crohn's disease, arthritis or joint pain. Rodger gives his own example of healing from am autoimmune disease, which he understood was related to stress.
