As always I don't feel happy or satisfied that someone got punished for bad driving, but I feel it's a necessary consequence to stop everyone driving like this all the time. Honestly, I wish nobody would drive badly and then I'd have no content and no pain in the rear videoing and reporting work to take up some of my spare time.
I would imagine that this is not his first bad driving conviction though, as I can't see how this overtake would have resulted in 12 points. I thus think it's probably appropriate if he's been driving badly and on numerous occasions in the past.
A narrow lane like this on a busy construction site with lots of corners is exactly the sort of place where cyclists should ride in the middle of the lane. As you can see, there isn't enough room for both the van and a bicycle, so if he wants to overtake he has to go in the other lane at least partly, and he can only do that if there's no oncoming traffic. Furthermore, he only caught up to me just before that final corner, so why the rush to overtake? I bet he's kicking himself for that decision.
I do feel sorry for the guy, but it's better that he got disqualified before he does something like that to someone else and cause a serious collision and/or injury.
