The student loan debt crisis is no joke. What originally started out as a good intention has spiraled into 1.7 trillion dollars in collective student loan debt - and this number continues to increase every year. 2020 saw an uptick in student debt delinquencies, and an overall increase in student loans across the board. Student loans have the potential to make higher education accessible to a greater number of students... but is it really accessible if they will be struggling to pay this debt back for YEARS to come? Other types of loans, specifically home loans, have strict qualifying criteria - why aren't student loans treated the same way? YES, you can say that these loans are an exception, because they allow for people to gain qualifications to work a high-paying job - but more often now, we are seeing that students out of college are not making as much as they should be. Why are teenagers (in many cases) permitted to take out these significant loans, without enough proper financial education? Does everyone truly understand the implications and consequences of student loans when they decide to use them? I hope to continue the discussion in the comments down below with you guys. This is a tough conversation, and I truly want to learn more.
