My hypothesis on why this effect occurred.

Upon further reflection I believe the individual charges of the electrons create a differential and thus an attraction when close enough. This seems to happen inside a block but would also happen when two are this close for the electrons to conduct across the metals also fields of EM energy can interact this close if strong enough. This seems to be quite close to the "Van der Waals force" after further research. So I will place my bet on electron based attraction. Not Covalent bonds or Ionic bonds.
