February is American Heart Month and this national spotlight and focus is for good reasons. Consider the following:
1. Cardiovascular diseases kill nearly 1 in 3 women each year.
2. Heart disease is the number 1 killer of women, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined.
3. Nearly half of blacks have CVD.
4. Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death in the United States, killing nearly 130,000 people a year. That’s roughly 1 in every 20 deaths.
Exactly what does this have to do with leadership? If you are not healthy you cannot lead. It’s hard to enjoy success and the fruits of your labor while dealing with ailing health. Sometimes good leaders put themselves on the back burner because we are busy serving everyone else. So, here is your reminder to take care of yourself.
