France, Britain and Germany triggered a dispute mechanism in response to Iran's recent moves to end its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal. The mechanism could lead to UN sanctions against Tehran. However, Iran has dismissed the step as a "strategic mistake." The European powers said they were acting to avoid a crisis over nuclear proliferation as tensions escalate in the Middle East.
