In our present economy where unemployment is low, learning how to recruit people effectively is important. Although low unemployment is a good thing for the country, it makes recruitment difficult for businesses and makes recruitment technique all the more valuable.
Be clear about the strengths that you’re looking for. Often, employers look for the person with a rounded set of skills. They try to avoid any sharp negatives and so they choose the person who is adequate at everything rather than great at a few things.
The problem with this recruitment technique is that it doesn’t give you the results you’re looking for. Whatever outcome you’re desiring, you should be sure to seek that out in your candidates. Ask about their strengths in the areas that you’re looking for and hire based on how they can fulfill that need. If you learn how to recruit people this way then you may get candidates who are deficient in certain areas, but those will be areas that you’re not concerned with; what matters is that they’ll help you reach the goals that you’ve set for your business.
Another important aspect to consider is that your recruitment efforts should be like a marketing campaign. Your ads should stand out from the rest. Especially in these times of low unemployment, in order to get quality candidates who may not even be actively looking for a job, you need to demonstrate why your business would be a good match for them.
Finding good candidates is never easy. When the pool of active job-seekers is relatively small, it makes knowing how to recruit people all the more difficult. Using the proper recruitment technique will help you find the people who can truly help your business grow.

ABOUT PETER BOOLKAH
--------------------
Hi, I’m Peter Boolkah, business coach, keynote speaker and winner of over 32 major coaching awards.
I know how difficult running a business can be and how overwhelming it can feel when things aren’t going right. One thing I tell my clients is never stop believing in your dreams. Even if you feel your business is wearing you down, you can always find a way to reverse the trend and get back in the game.
Many of the entrepreneurs I work with are great leaders and innovators. However, their businesses lack structure, systems and management. If you don’t have all these parts working in harmony, your business won’t reach its potential. Whether the ultimate goal is to keep or sell your business, you want to see growth year-on-year.
My transition into business coaching came after spending 15 years at McDonald’s. Working for one of the world’s biggest corporate brands exposed me to all aspects of business and gave me the skills and experience to establish my own company.
I know that many entrepreneurs learn by trial and error, but unless you have an endless stream of capital behind you, your chance of success is rare. You often need someone experienced who can analyse your business objectively and put emotions aside when big decisions need to be made.
I’ve been lucky enough to assist many like-minded business owners. These are people who use their success to help those less fortunate. I’ve found that supporting a charity, like B1G1, has given me even more motivation to succeed. It’s wonderful to know that when my business is doing well, many people have the opportunity to live a better life.
