(11 Jul 2014) Israel's prime minister vowed on Friday to press forward with a broad military offensive in the Gaza Strip, insisting international pressure will not halt what he said was a determined effort to halt rocket fire by Palestinian militants as the death toll from the four-day-old conflict rose above 100.
Addressing a news conference, Benjamin Netanyahu brushed off a question about possible cease-fire efforts, signalling there was no end in sight to the operation.
At least 21 Palestinians were killed on Friday, pushing the overall death
toll to 106, including dozens of civilians, according to the Health Ministry
in Gaza.
In the Gaza Strip town of Jabaliya, 77-year old Ibrahim Mahmoud Daoud sifted through the rubble of his home, destroyed in an Israeli attack.
Were he a younger man, he would don a suicide belt and blow himself up in Tel Aviv in vengeance, he said.
Plumes of smoke from Israeli missile attacks rose from the Gaza City skyline as the sundown call to prayer marked the break of the Ramadan fast.
In the distance, trails of missiles fired from Gaza into Israel crisscrossed the sky.
