A lawyer couple was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in broad daylight in Peddapalli district on Wednesday, police said. During his last moments, the man reportedly named a TRS leader as being responsible for the attack.
Gattu Vaman Rao and Nagamani, practicing lawyers at the Telangana High Court, were heading home from Hyderabad when they were waylaid by two men who hacked them to death near Kalvacherla village of Ramagiri Mandal in Telangana.
The assailants reportedly dragged the couple out of their car and stabbed them to death with sickles and knives around 2.30 pm on Wednesday, police said.
After receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and took the seriously injured couple to a hospital, but they succumbed to injuries, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana said.
The Commissioner said preliminary investigation revealed that the duo were professional killers. Police have registered a case and formed four special teams to arrest the duo.
Telangana Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali has condemned the incident and said, “This is being viewed very seriously by the government. The culprits will soon be brought to book and dealt with, as per the law.”
