As part of exemplary veterinary care, pregnant animals like Mauyak, a beluga whale at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium, receive regular ultrasounds to check in on her developing calf. In this sonogram video, you can see the calf (about the size of a football) moving around, and the ultrasound even picks up the outline of one of the calf’s growing pectoral fin. Mauyak is expected to give birth to the calf in summer 2019.
