Breast Lift: Implants Instead of a Lift | Aesthetic Surgical Images
A question that's frequently asked is, "If I have a little bit of drooping, can an implant improve that or do I need a lift?" And the answer is maybe. It depends on the degree of drooping that there is and the size that you want to go to. A droop of the breasts is defined as ptosis, that's what we call it, and there are three different levels of that. Grade one, is just a mild ptosis where the nipple is down from its normal position, but not too far down. It's just a little bit off of the normal line of the nipple. Grade two is where it's still facing forward, but it's a lot lower down. Grade three is pointing towards the floor.
The two lower amounts of drooping really can't be addressed by an implant by itself because what happens is we get a beautiful breast up here, but the nipple is still heading downward and doesn't solve all the problems that we need to. When the drooping is mild, then an implant can fill that out and bring up the nipple into the position that it's supposed to be in without adding any extra incisions on the breast.
One final condition that simulate or seems like drooping is actually called pseudoptosis where the nipple is in the right position, but the breast tissue is kind of slumped down. It leaves a hollowing of the upper part of the breast and all the fullness is down below the nipple. That's a common thing to happen after pregnancy and after breastfeeding and it's actually the perfect situation for an implant. That implant will go in, fill up that upper part, the nipple stays still, pointing forward like it's supposed to, and it doesn't matter that you've got more of your own tissue down low than up high. That's a good answer in that situation.
One thing to avoid is to try to put in a bigger implant to try to correct the drooping because what happens with that is things tend to droop more and more. We can almost be counterproductive with that.
Considering all these issues, we realize an implant can help with drooping. Sometimes it's the answer, but not always and it really depends on your anatomy. It's important to get that evaluated by someone who can tell you the facts and make the choice that's right for you.
