This week, John tries to stump Mike with a Porter Tasting. He presents me with commercial Tadcaster Porter, his Brew United Brown Porter, and home-brewed Brown Porter made with traditional ingredients.
I managed to guess correctly, but there were a couple interesting lessons learned. The Taddy Porter is always somewhat oxidized when we get it here in the States. I can't say it's a great example of the style. Then again, I've never had it in England.
The second one is that the Brew United Porter made with home roasted malts simply had no aroma at all. It hasn't aged that much since we last tasted it. It has seriously dropped off since the last tasting. The traditionally made porter is the winner in this tasting.
