Anima Powers that helped me:
- The mandatory Unbound Fortitude for 100% uptime on Die by the Sword.
- Bottled Enigma - run away when he is casting the hook, if you're not able to interrupt it. You can also use smoke bombs from the vendor, as others have pointed out.
Other than this, nuke him whenever possible. Don't try to hit him during thorns, as you will most likely be one shotted. Also don't step in the Noxious Clouds, as that's even more deadly than thorns.
