Thalassemia Major is a blood disorder that affects children from birth. It affects the red blood cells, particularly haemoglobin. The child develops anemia at the age of 6 to 7 months after which if the blood is not transfused between 3 to 4 weeks the child will develop the disease at 5 years. In children, thalassemia is highly curative with a bone marrow transplantation rather than going for blood transfusion.
