A Scottish health board has declared a “critical incident”, with ambulance patients being diverted to hospitals outside the area and elective procedures postponed.
NHS Grampian said it is facing “very high demand” for its services, with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary experiencing “extreme pressure.”
As a result, ambulance patients who do not require life-saving treatment will now be taken to hospitals outside Grampian, and some elective procedures and appointments have been postponed.
People with relatives due for discharge are being asked to attend the hospital before midday to allow beds to be prepared for other patients.
