Total Station is a Modern Surveying Instrument which is broadly used in today's modern surveying techniques. After Centering leveling and orientation Total Station gives us coordinate (easting, northing & elevation) of an unknown point instantly. In the whole process TS do some internal calculations before giving an output.
Today in this video we will discuss how total station can easily gives us the coordinate and what are the mathematical calculation is done by ETS and what is the working principal of ETS.
Step by Step Working Principal of ETS
1. ETS discharge a ray to the target and it reflects back to the ETS. And in the mean time it computes the time interval taken by the ray. By the theory of distance time and speed of light, ETS calculates the inclined distance. This inclined distance is twice because the ray goes and reflects back. So we get 2Id
2. As we levelled the ETS machine, ETS calculate the tilting/ Vertical angle (alpha) in respect to horizontal plane.
3. By the help of vertical angel(alpha) and Inclined distance (Id) using trigonometrical formula ETS calculates the horizontal distance (Hd).
4. By the method of orientation we recognize the North direction to the ETS instrument. And accordingly ETS calculates the bearing (theeta) of that unknown point.
5. Now using bearing (theeta) and Horizontal distance (Hd) ETS calculates DEPARTURE and LATITUDE by using trigonometrical formula:
Departure = Hd × Sine(theeta)
Latitude = Hd × Cos(theeta)
6. Now by adding departure and latitude with the easting and northing of the ETS point respectively ETS calculates the easting and northing of the unknown point.
7. We provide the instrument height (h1) and target height (h2) to the ETS. And by the help of Inclined distance and vertical angle ets calculates another height (h3) by applying trigonometrical formula.
8. h1 and h3 is added with the rl of known point i.e. ets point and h2 is substracted from the total. Thus we get RL of unknown point.
So like this way ETS calculates the easting northing and RL of an unknown point instatnly.
