(20 Jul 2015) Protesters clashed with police on Monday in Istanbul as thousands of people took to the streets to denounce an attack in southeastern Turkey that killed 31 people and wounded nearly 100.
Riot police used water cannon to disperse the demonstrators, following an earlier peaceful protest on Istiklal Avenue.
The explosion took place in Suruc, near Turkey's border with Syria, at a cultural centre where a political group, the Federation of Socialist Youths, had been holding a meeting, a witness said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but one senior government official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly, said Turkey suspected the Islamic State group was behind the blast.
