There are more species of cicadas in Australian than there are in any other country. There may be as many as 1000 species here, and in comparison there are less than 300 species in North America.

Male Australian cicadas are singing their songs in the bush right now (the date of publishing this video). I love hearing them, how about you?

In the video I refer to the book "Australian Cicadas" by M.S. Moulds which was published in 1990. It appears to be out of print at the moment, but you might pick up a used copy somewhere. It is a fantastic book.
