Confused about the difference between a clinical psychologist and a psychiatrist? I'm hoping that this video will clear some of that up for you!

I spend some time teasing apart the requirements of becoming both a psychologist and a psychiatrist and then differentiate between job descriptions. By the end of the video, you should have a better picture of what the difference is between these two mental health professionals.

In summary, the main difference between the two careers exists due to each job's requirements. A psychologist is required to complete a P.h.D in clinical psychology where they will receive extensive research training. A psychiatrist is required to complete their M.D along with a specialization in psychiatry. Because of this, psychiatrists can prescribe medication; as a reminder, psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Both professionals provide psychotherapy and are able to diagnose their clients when appropriate.

This video distinguishes psychologists from psychiatrists in Ontario, Canada and may not be applicable all over the world. However, I do believe that most if not all of this information is applicable to the United States and much of the rest of the world.
