Hello, and welcome back to a long overdue on my channel, back at last!
From this video, I am pleased to announce higher-quality recording (thanks to my lovely new camera), which should hopefully include better stabilisation in most new videos. I am also pleased to say that editing will also be better (thanks to my lovely new computer), so expect to see an overall increase in quality on the channel from now! :)
For this train trip report, I will be travelling on Southeastern Highspeed from London St Pancras to Dover Priory. The train used is a Class 395 EMU (electric multiple unit), built by Hitachi at Kasado Factory, in Japan as part of their AT300 family. The trains are nicknamed as 'Javelin', thanks to their use on Olympic Javelin Shuttle trains, back during the London 2012 Olympics. This Olympic theme is further backed up by each unit being named after a British Olympian.
The route for this journey is London St Pancras International to Stratford International, Ebbsfleet International, Ashford International via HS1 (Highspeed 1), before branching off and calling at Folkestone West, Folkestone Central, and finally Dover Priory - the final terminal station. This is a high-speed train, and completes the journey in far less time (about one hour) than the regular classic routes take (about two hours).
Capable of 140mph, the trains are not quite true high-speed, but still proudly take claim to being the fastest domestic train in the UK. Interestingly, these aren't proper long-distance trains, instead serving as some sort of high-speed commuter train, lacking many bells and whistles that you would expect. It's basically a faster equivalent to a Class 375 (for example). I also found it of note that these Hitachi trains are much better than other trains from the company, such as the Class 800, Class 801, and Class 802. I don't understand how that could be possible, but they are better in every single way.
Hope you enjoy the video, and look out for weekly uploads in the future!
