Breaking News: On the wrestlers' versus Bhushan case, members of the 1983 World Cup-winning cricket team advised the top athletes on Friday not to make a hasty choice and hoped their complaints would be heard and addressed out of concern that the protesting wrestlers may take the extreme step of immersing their medals into the sacred river Ganga. The statement has been released by Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and Kirti Azad on behalf of the entire 1983 team, which came out in support of the wrestlers. Despite threatening to throw their medals into the Ganga, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia took their protest to Haridwar on May 30 to call for the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations that he sexually exploited female wrestlers.
