Alpinestars TechAir Off Road price tag is is $999.95 with no subscription fee. Two new canisters cost around $169.95 and will give two deploys / crashes. Every four crashes /deploys Alpinestars recommend getting the vest serviced for roughly $300 at authorised Alpinestar dealers.
Safety is a huge factor with riding a motorcycle and so I’m a huge believer in the use of air vests. This video I talk through the specifications and my experience with the Alpinestars TechAir off road Dakar approved protection.
It appears like a normal full body armour with elbow, back, shoulder and chest protection certified to CE Level 1, but it also has a seamlessly integrated air vest system. It’s a little bulkier than a normal protector but it's incredibly comfortable – and body saving. Intelligent accelerometers and gyroscopes can tell exactly when the rider needs it deploying before you even hit the ground! Thankfully, you're not going to have an embarrassing curb side inflate as the technology is far more attuned, knowing what's an actual crash versus a little stumble.
This is a compulsory kit for most of the major rallies including the Dakar rally, Morocco Desert Challenge, Qatar International Baja, Africa Eco Race and many more, and it's already saved many breaks and most probably deaths.

Tech-Air OFF-ROAD is the latest, state-of-the-art motorcycle airbag protection system to join the current family of Tech-Air RACE, STREET, Tech-Air 10, Tech-Air 5 , and Tech-Air 3 systems. Airbag algorithm – how does it know to deploy?
It all works using a series of tri-axial sensors including 3 accelerometers and 3 gyroscopes, which in turn, communicate with the system’s computer, sending data inputs every millisecond, or a thousand times a second.
Three separate algorithms – RALLY, ENDURO, AND STREET. From the moment of imminent crash detection to full inflation of the airbag bladder will take between 40 and 60 milliseconds.
- RALLY is for fast off-road action on any type of terrain, including cross country, Baja, and Rally Raid competition type use
- ENDURO is for low and medium speed riding, including enduro, dual-sport, and general off-road trail riding
- STREET is optimized for any type of street riding on paved roads
Alpinestars Tech Air off is available in 5 sizes: Small through 2XL. There is no women’s specific size but I find the fit is perfect for me.
