Weird Facts About Ancient Egypt You Didn't Know!
Ancient Egypt, the land of pharaohs and pyramids, held some bizarre beliefs and practices. For instance, the ancient Egyptians worshipped animals, with cats holding a particularly sacred place. Killing a cat, even accidentally, was punishable by death. Cats were so revered that when one died, the entire household would go into mourning, shaving their eyebrows to mark the loss.
Mummies are synonymous with Egypt, but the process was far from glamorous. The brain was removed through the nose with a hook, a practice that sounds more like horror than history. Internal organs were also taken out and stored in canopic jars, believed to be needed in the afterlife.
Pharaohs were buried with all their treasures, including food and pets, but some even took their servants with them. These servants were often killed and buried alongside the pharaoh to serve him in the afterlife, demonstrating the extreme lengths taken to ensure the pharaoh’s comfort beyond death.
