When you filter data in Excel, the visible or filtered rows are in blue, and the data that doesn't meet the filter criteria are automatically hidden. This is great, except when you want to perform calculations on the filtered data. If you use the SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN, or other functions, the answers will be incorrect. You need to use the SUBTOTAL function to get accurate results.
The SUBTOTAL Function, don't get confused with the Subtotal command on the Data tab
