(23 May 2019) China's Ministry of Commerce blamed the US for causing "major setbacks" in trade talks and reiterated China's stance that it will not accept unequal treatment.
In a press conference Thursday, ministry spokesperson Gao Feng said China will not "give in on matters of major principles."
Beijing has already responded to Trump's tariff hikes on 250 billion US dollars of Chinese imports by slapping penalties on 110 billion (US) of American goods.
Based on last year's trade, that leaves about 45 billion (US) in American imports.
They include semiconductors and other critical inputs needed by fledgling Chinese tech industries.
Gao lashed out at an order by the Trump administration that will cut access for Chinese technology companies such as telecom gear giant Huawei to advanced American computer chips and other components.
He said the order has disrupted business in both countries and is a "serious security threat" to the global industrial supply chain.
Gao also confirmed the exporting of US pork to China has been disrupted by the tariff war over trade and technology.
According to the USDA, Chinese buyers cancelled orders for 3,300 tons of American pork the week of May 6.
