Learn how LiFi works!
LiFi is a technology that transmits data via light waves, rather than the radio frequency used by WiFi.
In order to generate data onto light, one needs a special LiFi Modulator to be connected to a LED light. The modulator causes the LED light to be switched on and off millions of times per second. That ‘on-off’ activity, enables data transmission using binary codes (just like a computer does). By varying the rate at which the LEDs flicker on and off, information can be encoded in the light to different combinations of 1s and 0s.
To pick up these signals and translate them back into data, one needs a dongle. The dongle connects with the nearest LiFi enabled LED by sending invisible light back to the LiFi Modulator. Once detected, the connection is established and secure data streaming is a fact.
Connecting your devices to the internet via LiFi is now possible and simple. Nowadays, we still need to plug a dongle into our devices. Soon enough all smartphones, laptops and other wearable devices will have the necessary micro-receptors integrated.
Ellipz Smart Solutions (ESS)
Before ESS, Ellipz Lighting was already revolutionising the lighting industry with state-of-the-art LED technologies. Ellipz Smart Solutions was incorporated to smartly use the technological advantages already available in-house, creating differentiating factors used for LiFi: first of all a 30-40% higher average LiFi speed made possible thanks to higher LED quality and secondly a more stable LiFi connectivity..
The integration of LED lighting with LiFi is a logical step to create new and extra bandwidth for communication and connectivity in an already existing infrastructure. The final step is to use the lighting infrastructure to penetrate fast and at much lower costs than for example 5G and where wifi cannot solve connectivity issues. In the new era of IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Virtual Reality, additional bandwidth and safe connectivity will be increasingly essential.
