Pulpito del Diablo (Devil's Pulpit) is a high-altitude trek in Colombia's little-visited El Cocuy National Park. The park can be accessed from El Cocuy or Guican town, both of which involve a long bus ride from the city of Tunja.
Five individual travellers got together in quiet El Cocuy, to arrange a guide, who also provides the transportation (i.e. driver) to the park. As El Cocuy is already at 2900 metres elevation, we did a warm-up hike first to 3870-metre high Lago de las Lajas.
The next day, starting before dawn, we drove to the park entrance which is at 3800m elevation, to trek up to Pulpito del Diablo at 4800m. It took about 11 hours for the return trip, including breaks, returning to El Cocuy just before dark.
