English - The highlight here is the rare daylight glimpse of a Bombardier E Class Low Floor Tram on Swanston St. The tram was undertaking some network testing and is briefly seen amongst the regular flow of trams along Swanston St.
Up until the mid 1990s, most trams along Swanston St from the Southern Suburbs terminated at Franklin St with trams to East Coburg and Moreland continuing on through Melbourne University. There was a signaller in the tower at Franklin St who directed trams to particular crossovers to turn back for the service to the suburbs. The drivers view through Franklin St will highlight the track and the crossovers around the corner in Victoria St where trams used to shunt.
Now all trams continue on the curved tracks to the right and terminate at Melbourne University or in the case of routes 1 and 6 continue along Lygon St. During this visit I filmed Comeng Z3 Trams, Comeng and ABB B2 Trams and Siemens Combino D1 and D2 Trams. Glenhuntly Depot also runs A Class Trams but none were present as I filmed.
