A brief overview of two families of hand planes and a discussion of their advantages and disadvantages. Bench planes, or high angle planes, are usually set at "common pitch" which sets the blade at 45º relative to the workpiece. Lie Nielsen offers some of their bench planes with frogs set at "york pitch" which is 50º, and "middle pitch" which is 55º. These optional frogs can really help out in tricky grain for those of you who own this brand of hand plane. This video only deals with "common pitch" bench planes and low angle planes.
